Hello, I just joined the group. My name is David Wren-Hardin. I'm an equity and index options trader, focusing on volatility arbitrage strategies such as dispersion, index arbitrage and event-driven strategies. I have been trading for almost ten years. I am currently looking for a position, but most recently was the lead risk-manager and head trader for PFTC Group, a proprietary trading firm that used market-making to leverage volatility strategies. At its peak, PFTC traded up to 2% of the nationwide options volume on a given day.

Finance is actually my second career. I started as a neuroscientist, receiving my Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. My thesis examined how the brain is organized for a communication behavior; in my case, singing in birds. I spent a year studying bat echolocation at the University of Washington as a post-doc, before starting my trading career.

Hello, My name is Vadim Revzin and I am a senior at Bentley College graduating with a degree in Economics/Finance in May of 2008. My twin brother and I are looking for an analyst position at a Hedge Fund, but understand that we need a few years of experience before a Hedge Fund would be willing to hire.

My internships experiences are mainly focused on marketing/sales, but I have since decided that it is not a career path for me, and have switched to actively pursuing jobs in Finance. The problem is that it's very difficult to even get an interview with no internship experience in this field. Still, I am very passionate about this field and am hoping to get some kind of entry level job that can launch my career.

I am here to network and hopefully get some pointers on what I could be doing to get a worth while first job.

Hi. I'm Lester Ingber. My current research interests are in developing algorithms for processing "ideas" (patterns of information), e.g., across market sectors, transforming fundamental information into real-time technical indicators, etc. I have worked on quite a few problems in real-world trading as Director R&D for an options firm and for a hedge fund, and I believe this new approach is in the near future for trading.

I have some papers in my archive on this topic, e.g., http://ingber.com/markets06_ism.pdf on "Ideas by statistical mechanics (ISM)". ISM integrates previous projects to model evolution and propagation of ideas/patterns throughout populations subjected to endogenous and exogenous interactions. A short version appears as "AI and Ideas by Statistical Mechanics (ISM)" in Encyclopedia of Artificial Intelligence (2008), and details in this paper appear in "Ideas by Statistical Mechanics (ISM)" the Journal of Integrated Systems Design and Process Science, Vol. 11, No. 3, pp. 22-43 (2007), Special Issue: Biologically Inspired Computing.

Hi there, my name is Jon Jacobs and I am a co-founder of Orissa Group, Inc.

Orissa Group is the pioneer in the development of liquidity risk analytics and our mission is to provide investment managers with the highest quality and most robust tool set in the evaluation of portfolio liquidity risk.

The markets of 2007 and 2008 have shown, yet again, that this key aspect of risk is misunderstood and difficult to quantify. Our tools will make liquidity risk a manageable entity and allow you to survey the current, and subsequent, liquidity crises with greater confidence.

We have developed two white papers demonstrating our tools’ utility. The first paper demonstrates the success of a simple strategy based on trading S&P 500 and Russell 200 ETFs. The second paper shows how simple liquidity-based adjustments can significantly improve returns in a real world portfolio (Fidelity Low Priced Stock Fund).

Let me know if I can forward these papers to you for review.

Thank you,

Jon
